The history of Knights Lowe

From its humble beginnings in Paul Knights’ kitchen to expanding across three regional offices with a team of over 75 staff, Knights Lowe has undergone a remarkable journey of growth since its inception in 1987. Explore the rich history of the firm in the timeline below.

  • July 1987

    Paul Knights Chartered Accountant was incorporated and operated from Paul’s home. Paul began advertising in local newspapers to bring in business.

  • May 1988

    May 1988

    Ian Stammers joined the company as the first employee as an Accounts Senior.

  • October 1988

    October 1988

    Neil Sandry joined the company and the business moved to offices on St John’s Street in Bury St Edmunds.

  • 1988-1990

    The company grew to 11 people, outgrew its old office, and moved to Lark House in Eastgate Street.

  • 1996

    1996

    The business was rebranded as Knights Lowe.

  • 1999

    The Greenfield Site was purchased, where our current Bury St Edmunds office sits. When purchased, Eldo Farm House was sat on the site, and was knocked down to begin construction on the new building. Knights Lowe were the first business to move into Suffolk Business Park.

  • 2005

    James Knights joined the business from university.

  • 2014

    Knights Lowe acquired Staceys Chartered Accountants, along with their offices in Thetford, Bury St Edmunds and Newmarket, with the Thetford office still in place today.

    James Knights became Managing Director.

    We acquired Ballams Chartered Accountants, expanding our reach across East Anglia with an office in Ipswich.

  • 2023

    David Roberton & Co was acquired into Knights Lowe.
